History of Computers - When Floppy Disks Actually Flopped

With the advent of early computers as far as the 80's and beginning of 90's, floppy disks were popular to store data. Everyone who handled computers also had access to these floppy disks. But technology advances all the time and it was time for floppy disks to flop. What did people prefer instead? Read on to find out.
Floppy disks could only store KB's of data. But peoples' demand for storing data was catapulting higher and higher. And CDROM disks were born. They could store several mega bytes of data.
Now CD's are also getting obsolete. It is the era of GB's of data in flash drives and terabytes of data in portable hard disks.
So how did floppy disks which were once in great demand and popular become outdated? One reason I mentioned earlier is their much less storage capacity. The other reason is people no more found them enticing. CD's, flash drives and portable hard disks seemed more promising and sophisticated.
I myself don't like using CD's any more. I only download whatever I need from the vast resource of internet and if I have any data to store, I use flash drives.
So the trend was floppy disks, CDROM disks, flash drives and portable hard disks and yes in that order. What's next? What have the great Tech guys out there have in mind? I am curious, really curious.
Surely, something more attractive and user-friendly with three-in-one facilities will turn up. For example, they can be connected to digital camera, laptops or computer and cell phones with the same size and design. Now that would be interesting. One gadget being able to do all three would be great. I am in anticipation of that day.
Summing up, this article's focus was not actually on the history of computers but that of the accessories that can be connected to them. I hope you found value in what I portrayed here.
Years ago there were no computers - not to talk of floppy disks, CD's, flash drives and portable hard disks. But life still carried on. And people were simple and happy. But with the advent of these in modern life, the world has shrunk a lot but even then people don't feel satisfied and content with what they have. They have a strong urge to get more of these gadgets but in reality you don't need to be gadget obsessed and hoard in your home everything out there available in the market. You can still be purely happy and enjoy life without possessing all of them.
Rosina S Khan has authored this article, highlighting why floppy disks flopped and couldn't find their entrance in the modern era.

Importance of Apps on the PC

Technology has influenced each and every life. This has become an integral part of almost every person that we meet or come across every day. In fact, its effects are quite visible in the commercial and industrial areas. Everything in the world from economy to entertainment, from the sports to stock market all detailed information are available to us through laptops and desktops.
Have you ever wondered how these personal computers have become so important? The massive importance of computers has been achieved by the implementing the web applications into the computers. This can be availed by the users both through the browser and the client based applications.
What are these web applications?
A very important part of today's life is the World Wide Web. If you want to know anything about the world we are just a click away from it. This has become so easy because of the presence of internet. The medium trough which this information is transferred is commonly called web application or app.
How are the apps helpful for PC?
The apps are helpful in many ways and have made the functioning of the PC grow. Some of the ways are-
• The portals from which we chat with our friends by creating IDs are web applications that help people to stay connected no matter where they are.
• Another creativity of this world is the video calling app that not only connects people, but also enhances their conversation experience. This is done by giving them face to face talking experience in real time.
• Fast and easy communication is ensured by emails. An ID should be created here to send emails to the people one wants to communicate with.
• The users are given the chance of editing information if they find something irrelevant. Similar chances are provided in Wikipedia and other such information based sites.
• In the case of social media and blogging where the individual user are given the power to include their own material or writings. This can be effective done through computers.
Although all of these are very easy to use, but the making of it is not so easy. Several software and tools are used to design them and give them the present shape. Thus the way to use each application may vary from one to another. Whatever it may be, it should be accepted that all these developments and innovations have made the internet easier, like the way it is today.

Influence of Tablets on Our Kids

"Technology"- Heard the word? Well, if not them pardon me but you are living still in the previous age. Technology has made what we are today. The comforts that we are able to have now are all because of technology. This has made us much more advanced than we had been earlier.
The most impact that has been seen is in the children. There are the most affected from this technology. There have been both positive and negative effects, but the positive effects have out ruled the negative ones.
Nowadays the children are exposed to phones and tablets right from their births (quite literally). So, on an average, you will find yourself to be less smart than the little one, in terms of using the gadgets. While we may take months to learn gadgets they only require a couple of minutes. So, their intelligence has been decided to be utilized in a far more organized way through several tablet companies.
Companies are coming out with new concepts so that kids only benefit from using tablets and the parents can be sure that their child is up to no mischief. Tablets are now coming with learning enabled moods so that the child can learn while they play.
What has been included?
Tablets include several games which are specifically designed for the children. They help in imparting education. Certain apps are there which help kids identify the alphabets, animals, fruits. They teach how to write. Certain applications are also there which displays stories and rhymes.
Advantages of using tablets-
• Imparts methodical studying
• Enhances learning of the kids
• Learning is available according to age
• Memory and reproducing what they have learned becomes better
• Games teach them to overcome difficulty with intelligence
• The level of difficulty increases their ability of problem-solving
• The children becomes more interactive
Why should parents allow their kids use tablets?
Tablets come with parental settings. The parents can control the activities of the children on the tabs. They can keep a watch on their progress, per day usage and many more things. What is better is with tablets parenting becomes much easy. Especially the working parents would have much less to worry as their children would be learning the right things according to their age. Thus, this ensures that tablets are safe and allowing your little child to use tablet can be advantageous both for you as a parent and your child.

The Must-Have Tech of 2017

"He's funny when he gets annoyed," my daughter said.
"He threw a tantrum!" my son claimed after winning a game of quick tap.
If you listen to my kids talk, you'd think they were talking about a friend or a pet.
The thing is, what they are talking about is one of the biggest and hottest trends in electronics... one that is about to become a big deal for stock market investors.
You see, my kids are talking about Cozmo, the little robot I managed to get them for Christmas.
Anki, the company that makes Cozmo, sold out of the robot before Christmas. It's back in stock now, and my sources say that Cozmo continues to sell well even after the Christmas rush.
Cozmo has fascinated my kids since Christmas morning. They speak to it as if it were a real person, and they love the few games and skills that Cozmo comes ready to play.
But this is only the beginning for robots.
The Hot Item at CES
You're going to hear a lot more about robots. The Consumer Electronics Show - or more commonly known as CES - is going on in Las Vegas.
In fact, robots are such a big deal at CES 2017 that all of Friday's show is dedicated to these amazing machines.
You should keep up with what's happening with robots because they are a critical component of the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution.
According to an IDC research report released yesterday, the IoT revolution is going to generate $1.7 trillion in economic value by 2020. In fact, last year was the biggest year for robot startups, with $1.95 billion spent on 128 companies.
As an investor, it's critical for you to track new, cutting-edge robotics products like Cozmo because I believe many of the companies making these machines will go public in 2017, leading to incredible profits from their shares.
One company that I've mentioned - Impinj, a maker of IoT sensors used in retail - had its initial public offering (IPO) on July 21 at $14 a share. The shares hit a post-IPO high of $41.91 recently, resulting in early investors raking in nearly 200% in about five months. Those are phenomenal gains in a few months that most investors never make in a lifetime!
Nutanix, another IoT IPO on September 30, priced at $16. The stock soared to a high of $46.78 in two days, delivering an unbelievable gain of 193%. Stunning gains for any investor!
The Must-Have Assistant
I believe these kinds of gains are just the tip of the iceberg for what's coming in 2017. I've already told you to look for Anki, the maker of Cozmo, when it finally goes public.
Another robot company to watch for is Mayfield Robotics.
Mayfield makes Kuri, another consumer-friendly robot that's featured at CES 2017.
This robot wanders around your home, acting as your personal assistant. Kuri can answer questions as well as monitor your pets, children or aged parents. It can help monitor your house and do things for you that would currently require a PC, smartphone or tablet using services such as Google, Skype, etc.
The key to Kuri's adoption as a household robot is that it offers convenience and a new benefit - the ability to monitor people, pets and things you value when you're not home.
Mayfield is selling Kuri for $699.
Profit From the Revolution
Now, Kuri and Cozmo are likely to be successes and could launch the companies that make them significantly higher once they start trading on the stock exchanges.
But the really massive robot opportunity in the IoT mega trend is in the use of machines in industry and business. That's where I believe you're going to find the Google-type winners in the stock market. Google has soared more than 1,500% since its IPO in 2004.
And in time, some of these IPOs will generate even bigger gains - like Cisco's gain of 40,000% during the last tech boom.
You can capture some of the gains from the IoT robot opportunity by buying a specialty exchange-traded fund (ETF), such as the Renaissance IPO ETF (NYSE Arca: IPO), or a focused ETF, such as the Robo Global Robotics & Automation ETF (Nasdaq: ROBO).

XPRIZE - Making The Impossible Possible

One needs only look skyward after sunset to understand the full potential of mankind. The bright celestial object above is the moon, and it is some 240,000 miles away. Despite the obvious challenges, people thought it was possible to travel there, and eventually they did. The first moon landing is the most referenced occurrence when discussing what is possible for humanity to achieve, and for good reason. Decades later it remains an inspiration to those with the audacity to believe that anything can be accomplished.
Belief that a solution can be found to an inherently difficult problem - like how you get a man to set foot on the surface of the moon - is what drives the XPRIZE competition. It exists to reward those who are steadfast in their desire to innovate in order to make a difference for the betterment of humanity. The first XPRIZE was dreamt up in the mid-1990s as a challenge to award a team that could fly a craft at least 100 kilometers into suborbital space two times over the course of two weeks. In 2004, the feat was accomplished by a myriad of individuals who created and flew the aptly named SpaceShipOne and claimed the $10 million prize.
SpaceShipOne was the first winner of the XPRIZE, but there have been subsequent winners in areas of technology other than traveling into space. The Lunar Lander Challenge was launched in 2006 and required teams to build rocket-powered vehicles that could take off, reach a height of 50 meters and fly laterally for 100 meters before landing. The top prize of $1 million was not claimed until 2009 by Masten Space Systems. A contest called the Automotive XPRIZE was also underway at this time, with the potential for this innovation to impact the masses in a way the space-oriented endeavors may not have. The challenge for the automotive contest was fairly straightforward and easy for anybody to understand - build a car that would average at least 100 MPGe (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent) with maximum CO2 emissions of 200 grams per mile. The $5 million top prize was won by a team called Edison2 in what was named the Very Light Car, a vehicle which got 102.5 MPGe.
In 2011, another prize was awarded, this one for completing the Oil Cleanup XChallenge. This competition was in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that devastated the Gulf of Mexico and challenged teams to come up with ways to remove crude oil from the ocean. The winning team claimed the $1 million prize by coming up with a skimming device that would collect oil sitting on top of the water. Other prizes claimed were for the use of sensors to enable better personal health, followed by one that would allow for better understanding of ocean acidification.
XPRIZE has other contests which remain open, each of which deals with coming up with a breakthrough of some sort using technology for the betterment of humanity. The open prizes are for space exploration, a mobile device to diagnose patients, educational apps, developing artificial intelligence, ocean floor mapping, adult literacy, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Along with these already open contests, more in the planning stages as the solutions to issues that mankind is fighting are always going to be needed.
XPRIZE seeks to change that by developing certain criteria that ensures a problem won't just be covered up, but solved. Simply throwing money at a problem will never fix that problem, but mask it. In essence, this is what XPRIZE is all about - delivering hope that problems, no matter what the scale is - can be resolved by relatively small teams of people with a common cause. Humanity is better off when people are working together to come up with solutions to issues, and one way to accomplish that is by rewarding those who find those solutions. This is what makes XPRIZE different than so many other organizations - what matters is the end result, a solution to a problem that can offer hope and inspiration to others who may be watching and wondering if they can achieve something that will truly make a difference in the lives of others around the world.
